Anger, by it’s very nature is contentious. The subject of how to break free from being an angry person, also leaves room for debate. Quite a number of decades ago, it was thought if you had a punching bag, like the ones at gym, and took your anger out on the bag, you would be better for it.
Now research over time has shown that this is not so. Repeatedly punching a bag when angry builds on the anger, not reduces it. Think about it this way, if you can’t hammer a nail, and yet you keep having a go, you eventually master hammering a nail. Mastering how to be angry is the end result of repeatedly using a gym bag as the individual has not learnt a skill set to break free from being angry.
Research now shows how it’s necessary to retrain your brain. The first step to retrain your brain is the willingness to retrain your brain as it takes time and effort. Next the willingness to learn an entire new skill set is imperative. Why the willingness for both these steps? It can be super frustrating i.e. feeling angry, that you weren’t taught these skills growing up, and this anger can impede your willingness to participate in change.
The diagram below outlines different stages of anger and the relevant colour demonstrates the tools you will need to learn to begin breaking free from anger. Please always seek professional assistance to develop your anger preventative tool kits. The article below details the journey of men working with their specialist and wives to break free and fill their tool kits with new skill sets.
I encourage you to develop your skill sets, then you and your children, your family will also learn and never have to feel as you have done.
